The HKU philosophy department is very pleased to welcome Dr. Chris Fraser. He will be joining the Department starting this July. A native Canadian, Dr. Fraser grew up in the US, and has lived in Asia since 1984. He obtained his Ph.D. in philosophy at HKU, studying under Chad Hansen. His research areas include early Chinese philosophy and contemporary analytic thought, especially epistemology and ethics.

Professor Ned Block visiting HKU in May 2008
March 26, 2008Professor Ned Block will be a Distinguished Visiting Professor at HKU during 3 – 17 May 2008. He works in the area of philosophy of mind and cognitive science. Please see http://www.hku.hk/philodep/block for a list of his lectures and workshops.
His public lecture “How to find consciousness in the brain” is on Thursday 15th May 2008.
Time: 5pm-7pm (refreshments will be served after the lecture)
Venue: Rayson Huang Theatre, Main Campus, HKU

Donation challenge

Dr Stanley Ho has pledged HK$500 million to support HKU. Under the “Stanley Ho Alumni Challenge” (何鴻燊校友挑戰計劃) every dollar you give will be matched dollar for dollar, up to HK$100 million a year for the next few years. This means if you donate $100 to the Philosophy Department, it will receive $200.
